Kangana has sought a stay on the trial proceedings against her based on the defamation case filed by the veteran. As per a recent report by the Free Press Journal, Kangana’s pleas will likely be heard on January 9, 2024, by a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Manjusha Deshpande. In her plea, the actress had contended that both their complaints stem from the same incident and hence ought to be tried together to conflicting judgments. According to the FPJ, her plea states that the proceedings arising from her complaint have been stayed whereas the proceedings from Akhtar’s complaint are continuing, which are unjust and against the established principles of natural justice. The plea further reads, “It is Ranaut's case that shall bring out the truth of the dispute and not that of Akhtar. It would be in the interest of justice that till the time the revision application is decided, Akhtar's case is also stayed.” ALSO READ: Kangana Ranaut's Fiery Comments Bashing Ranbir Kapoor And Alia Bhatt's Age Resurfaces Online, Says, At '27 My Mother Had 3 Kids' - WATCH VIRAL VIDEO

For those who don’t know, Akhtar had filed a complaint against the actress after she had made remarks about their meeting in 2016, during an interview with the news channel. Proceeding this, the 36-year-old actress too had filed a cross-complaint against Akhtar and accused him of ‘criminal conspiracy, extortion and outraging modesty by invading her privacy.’ On July 24, 2023, a magistrate court in Andheri dropped the charges of extortion against Akhtar. However, they had summoned him in connection with the offences under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
